Surf-Lines - Environmental Policy

Surf-Lines is a North Wales based business that:
• Is a leading provider of coasteering, kayaking, canoeing, sea kayaking and rock climbing mountain walking, to individuals, families and groups
• Surf-Lines Adventure Equipment – retailer of specialist paddlesport equipment.
• Works in partnership with the University of Wales Bangor in the delivery of degree courses.

We aim to run our business as an example of sustainable business practice and in doing so; demonstrate that good business is good sense. To minimize our impact on the environment, influence others and protect the environment for future generations of life on earth, we will continue to:

Tackle climate change
• Work towards carbon neutral status by effective measuring, reduction, and finally offsetting (by supporting international renewable energy and energy efficiency schemes) of our carbon footprint.
• Actively integrate climate change awareness and action into all our products and services.
• Switch to using only 100% Green Electricity from Good Energy by August 2009.

Green our supply chains
• constantly review our ordering procedures to minimise delivery/collection of goods
• Buy local wherever possible
• Procure stock and supplies that are manufactured from organic and/or recycled materials, wherever possible.
• Continue to work with suppliers to reduce/remove packaging
• Purchase only high performance light bulbs and the most energy efficient electrical appliances.

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle waste
• Recycle at least 95% of plastic, cardboard, waste glass, tins, plastic bottles and paper.
• Compost all suitable organic material.
• Avoid the use of ‘disposable’ cups and plates, etc.

Work in partnership with others to protect the environment
• Continue supporting environmental charities
• Encourage customers, suppliers and staff to become more environmentally sustainable.
• Continue to work with community environmental projects wherever possible

Surf-Lines will also continue to:
• Operate an environmental management system that complies with the requirements of the Green Dragon Environmental Standard.
• Monitor and improve environmental performance on an ongoing basis, keep up to date, and comply with all environmental legislation and avoid pollution.

Our environmental policy is constantly maintained, developed and updated, and undergoes a significant annual review. This policy is regularly communicated to all customers, suppliers and staff, and made available to all interested parties.
