BCU 2 Star Canoe-Kayak
This new BCU award is the focus of an excellent training course for club paddlers, those wishing to attend a canoe-kayak coach training course -and indeed anyone looking to sort out their foundation skills in both canoe and kayak.
The BCU 2 Star award assesses fundamental paddlesport skills on sheltered water in both types of craft; for details of this award, candidates should visit the BCU website -www.bcu.org.uk – for the award syllabus guidelines.
The training/assessment course will take place across two days of canoeing and kayaking, focusing on the following key areas:
Fundamental paddlesport skills- efficient forward paddling, steering and turning, moving sideways, maneuvering in a confined space, preventing a capsize; safety – capsize, self-rescue, peer rescue, risk management; background knowledge – equipment, safety, trip planning, access, environment.
The BCU 2 Star is a sheltered water award. Our Llanberis lakeshore base is an ideal location for this course, with easy access to an great training venue. We have an excellent fleet of canoes and kayaks and our experienced, enthusiastic coaches will help you make the most of your time afloat. In short, there’s no better place to train for this award!
Duration: 2 Days
Prior experience: you should have some previous experience of canoeing and kayaing for assessment during this course. Our Discover Kayaking or Discover Canoeing course is ideal preparation for this training weekend.
