Staff
Surf-Lines takes great pride in its staff. Employing many specially selected part-time staff, we are operated by a core team of enthusiastic individuals. Our aim is to bring you the very best experiences the Snowdonia Hills, Waterways and Coastline have to offer, be that through one of our many activities or your retail experience.
Phil – Owner
Phil started Surf-Lines in 2000 with friend Nick Cunliffe. Now the sole owner of the business Phil is always searching for new ways to take the business forwards. Having worked in the outdoors all his professional life Phil is the veteran of many a sea-kayak expedition, Alpine paddling trip, windsurf competition and much more (seriously, Phil’s list of outdoor achievements is unbelievably long!). Phil’s latest interests have taken him to wild swimming, cycling and running. These activities have quite naturally developed into completion of the odd triathlon and lead to our latest stock of Orca wetsuits and Triathlon gear.
Jim – Chief Instructor
Having worked his way up through the company for 8 years Jim is an accomplished and experienced paddler. A BCU Level 3 White Water, BCU Level 3 Open Canoe and Aspirant Level 5 Sea Kayak Coach, Jim is also a Summer Mountain Leader and Single Pitch Award holder. On his days off Jim enjoys sea paddling out in the local tide races and cycling on either his road or mountain bike. Jim lives and breathes the outdoors and is an expert at equipment maintenance to boot. Ask Jim about open canoe outfitting, or just about anything else we do for that matter!
Eve – Retail Manager & Instructor
Eve balances her time between activities on the water and managing our busy retail shop. With a passion for sea kayaking Eve is a BCU Level 3 Sea Kayak and a BCU Level 3 White Water kayak coach. She is arguably one of Wales’ most experienced Coasteering leaders and loves nothing more than getting clients out on activities. Eve enjoys mountain biking in her spare time, sea kayaking and open boating. Ask Eve about sea kayaking kit and boats (her latest hot tip being the North Shore Atlantic GRP!).
Rich – Assistant Retail and Digital Media Manager
If you walk into Surf-Lines Rich is the guy you’re most likely to find… usually tinkering with the computer in the shop. Responsible for day to day shop operations and reaching customers through the wonderful world of the internet he is also a BCU UKCC Level 2 Coach. Rich has a passion for river running and white water kayaking. On his days off you’ll find him frantically searching for water or looking at the latest surf report. Ask Rich about boats and kit for white water and surf.
Mary – Instructor & Retail Assistant
With a strong background in both retail and the outdoors Mary is a valuable new addition to the team. A highly experienced coasteering leader, a BCU Level 2 coach, Single Pitch Award holder and Mountain Leader (Summer), Mary is well placed to offer any of the activities available at Surf-Lines. She is particularly passionate about swimming. Ask Mary about our Orca swim gear and wetsuits.
