Gateway Courses
Here at Surf-Lines we recognise the importance of adventurous activities in a young person’s personal development and educational experience. Our Gateway Courses will help to develop self-confidence, leadership, decision-making, teamwork and problem solving – in a positive environment where young people are given the opportunity to overcome personal challenges. The outdoor environment is an ideal medium through which to develop these skills – our adventure courses provide safe, exciting and challenging experiences specifically tailored for age and ability.
We provide outdoor activities that best achieve these aims – canoeing and kayaking, rock climbing, mountain walking, coasteering, sea level traversing and gorge walking.
Our Gateway courses meet National Curriculum outdoor education requirements and are the ideal way to achieve the objectives of Key Stages 2, 3 and 4. Whatever your aims – adventure, education, development or training – we can provide the perfect course for your group. Our Gateway Courses have the following principal aims:
- Personal Challenge and Achievement
- Teamwork and Decision Making
- Journeying (mountain days/overnight camps, open canoe/sea kayak expeditions)
- An awareness of the outdoor environment and our responsibilities as global citizens
In recent years we have worked with a wide range of Youth Service groups, most of who have returned to us on repeated occasions. Many of our successful programmes have focused on the development of greater confidence in young people, combined with a willingness to explore new experiences and challenges. This focus on extending comfort zones, taking small risks to achieve large successes, has generated a high degree of positive feedback among our students.
We also appreciate that you may wish to achieve particular outcomes as a result of your group’s experiences. We are very happy to discuss these aims with you, and to tailor our adventure courses to meet those outcomes.
